KATIE UBBEN
MS, LPC
Katie has been counseling in private practice settings for 13 years. It is a calling she has felt drawn to since her early adolescent years, as she often experienced being sought out by others as a listening ear and source of wisdom, insight and encouragement. Katie received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, with a minor in Sociology, from Bethel College, (Indiana) in 2010. After this, she completed her Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy, with an emphasis in Community Counseling, from John Brown University (Arkansas) in 2013.
Katie was trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) in 2016 and practices from a trauma-informed perspective. She believes that trauma is stored in our bodies and that our bodies also hold an inherent wisdom and ability to move towards healing when given the support and resources needed to do so. Being trauma-informed also means that she integrates Polyvagal Theory and an understanding of how the autonomic nervous system is impacted by trauma. She believes that we can also learn resources that can help our nervous system return to a place of regulation when we have become dysregulated or activated by traumatic material. She also utilizes Internal Family Systems and an understanding of how we all have various “parts” of ourselves that play specific roles in helping us both survive and then heal from trauma as we move towards wholeness and living an integrated life. She also has an appreciation for the Enneagram and utilizes this as a framework for better understanding and growing in our unique personality types.
Katie works with individual adult women struggling with a variety of issues, including but not limited to traumatic experiences (spiritual/religious, emotional, mental, physical and sexual), grief & loss, spiritual deconstruction/reconstruction, relationship challenges, major life transitions, motherhood, post-partum issues, depression, anxiety and OCD.
Katie and her husband have been married for 12 years and have three beautiful and spirited children. She enjoys spending time with her family, being outdoors, reading, working jigsaw puzzles, thrifting, baking, taking care of her home, and as a western New York native, cheering on her favorite football team, the Buffalo Bills.
